I often see people asking about solo vacations and why they would never take them because they’re afraid. Afraid of fucking what? You’re an adult, you can do adult things and you were equipped with the tools to navigate your life. I compiled this list because a few weeks ago I was kicking it across the pond in London (during the latest attack) and realized how much I enjoy solo trips and how they’ve helped me and can possibly help others.
1. YOU NEED A F’N BREAK FROM PEOPLE…
If you are a manager or in any leadership role you are basically a parent or adult sitter. If you live in a crowded ass city (like New York) where there’s constant movement and unwarranted entertainment on your packed ass train at 7 am; working in some form of retail or constantly dealing with folks you need some me time. Sometimes you need a break from all of the background noise and problems that everyone else bestows on you; while getting some rest, reading, drinking and thinking in.
2. YOU’LL BE DOING SOME NEW ISH…
When was the last time you did something you’ve never done before? No, giving up your seat or paying for a strangers meal at your favorite restaurant doesn’t count. This counts as one of those bucket list items and can make for a wonderful personal experience.
3. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU LIIIIKE…
You know how they say “no trace, no face?” Well if you go somewhere alone and decide you wanna be an “adult” that does something out of your norm but embarrassed by what your folks will say you can. If you always wanted to go scuba diving, strip naked and spend time on a nude beach or go on a meditation retreat you can. Just be sure to take your own pics (for memories) and not end up in someone’s video on Facebook.
4. YOU CAN UTILIZE TF OUT OF YOUR PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS…
If you’re reading this that means you can read and hopefully you’ve excelled in that area of your life. However, too often folks get caught up in their phones, relying on Siri, Google and not really paying attention to detail nor having to solve problems because something is always there to fix it. Need a question answered? Ask google. Need some food? Go to seamless. This go around you will have to ask folks questions and pay attention to the signs and details.
5. PEOPLE PLAY TOO DAMN MUCH…
Folks always say: Let’s go to such and such before we get married, have children and start getting serious or I want to do something for my birthday but then it doesn’t happen. You were excited AF and they hit you with: I’m broke from Christmas, bills or can’t because of the lack of planning. Going solo will prevent anybody else’s rain from ruining your parade and you don’t have to wait decades for someone to be ready.
Where’s your dream destination and why haven’t you gone yet?

It’s such a great feeling in which you’ll gain some rest, clarity and me time! Definitely do it only if you do 2 days.
